New Classes at Grandma's Attic

Check out our class schedule at Grandma's Attic Classes. We have a full line of workshops coming up. Get ready for the holiday season. Start creating your own handmade masterpieces now.

Nina's Masterpiece

Nina is continuing on with her beginner painting classes at Grandma's Attic. Here is her most recent work.

She got a little carried away with the birds, but I think it shows a lot of talent for a 6 year old. She's very creative and a great listener to the the instructor. She really seems to love it!

Jen's Friends

For the second year in a row I will be organizing a team to participate in the Jen's Friends Climb Against Cancer.

Our team is AMSCO, made up of employees from Eastern Slope Inn Resort and our sister resort Attitash Mountain Village. Last year we raised over $600 for this great organization. For those with small children, I recommend the walk around the pond at the base of the hill. Last year, I convinced Nina and Billy Jack to hike up Cranmore with me. Although we were the last to make it to the top, we did make it and were OK until we decide to take the short cut down under the lift, which was as both kids told me more than once "a really bad idea".

For more information on Jen's Friends or the Hill Climb click here.

If you are interested in sponsoring our team you can contact me at meganscheid@easternslopeinn.com.

Hiking in the White Mountains

Took the kids for a short fun family hike to Diana's Bath. This is a great family hike, only takes about 15 minutes to reach the first set of fall's down a wide path that use to be an old logging road.

Once you get there, you can see the foundation from the old Grist Mill that use to be on this spot, several falls, and some great pools for cooling off in. For a little more of a work out, continue up the falls.

Don't forget the bug spray and the sun screen. Pack a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon there.

Time to Start Canning

With all the rain the first part of summer, this has been a rough season for gardening. I ordered heirloom seeds from seed savers exchange. Link here for information on this great organization that tries to preserve rare garden seeds

A few things coming in, but definitely not the killer garden I had hoped for.

We also missed strawberry picking at Schartner's farm because of their short picking season, which started late due to rain and ended early due to the smaller crop.

We did get in raspberry picking in Fryeburg and just caught the tale end of Blue Berry picking in Eaton. Have made strawberry jam and frozen the raspberries and blueberries for future jam making (once the current heat an humidity pass).

Art Class

We had our first class at Grandma's Attic.

Greta George from Nature's Way Acrylics hosted a beginners painting class. Greta is a local Bartlett artist who uses Acrylic paints to paint landscapes and local wildlife on wooden plaques. Our first class was a winter landscape scene. Thanks to our wonderful instructor Greta and thanks to all who attended. We will be offering this class again in July so be sure to check out our website http://www.grandmas-handmade-crafts.com/Classes.html for more information on this and other classes.

Here is my painting, not bad for someone who can barely draw a stick figure without assistance. My family doesn't believe I actually did this.
