Earth Hour

Last night at work Jenn and I participated in Earth Hour by switching off many of the lights inside the Inn we work at between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Unfortunately we couldn't go competely dark at work to show our support, wouldn't want guests falling all over the place. But hopefully you were in the dark where ever you were.

Last year 50 million people switched off their lights for one hour. This year the goal was 1 billion. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Rome's Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Time Square all stood in darkness in support. To see some great pictures of earth in the dark check out this site.

Etsy Shop

My sister in law Charlet, in addition to being an incredible photographer is also quite good at making handmade crafts. She and some of her friends have started an Etsy Shop called The 2nd Floor. Check it out by clicking on the following link.

Hopefully we can convince Chartlet to send us some of her handmade earrings to sell at Grandma's Attic this Summer.

Here is a picture Charlet took of one of her pairs of earrings posted on The 2nd Floor.

Grandma's Attic Grand Opening

After years of planning, starting with my Mom's dream of opening a retails craft supply store in the Mount Washington Valley area, it now seems like the dream may almost be a reality. Grandma's Attic a retail craft supply store will be opening on Main Street in Bartlett Village (Bartlett New Hampshire) this Memorial Day Week End.

We will offer a variety of craft supplies, as well as finished products from local artisans, wood crafts, from Country Woodcrafters, traditional New England products such as maple syrup and maple sugar candies, local history books and more. We will also be offering a variety of how to craft classes taught by Mt. Washington Valley artisans.

Keep checking our website http://www.grandmas-handmade-crafts.com/ for a complete schedule of classes coming soon.

Getting Ready for Spring

So with 8 to 10 inches of snow due to fall today, I am thinking about Spring, and have started some seedlings. It may be a little early, but I am hoping to have larger plants to sell at Grandma's Attic this spring not just seedlings for my own personal use.

The seeds are from Seed Savers, mentioned in a previous post.

Here is a good site for information on organic gardening:

This link brings you to a seed starting chart to help you plan when you should be starting your seeds indoors. This is the first year I am following gardening advice I have frequently read, and have started a journal of my day to day gardening activities. So hopefully I can learn from my mistakes next year.
